BANGALORE: The Kempegowda Maharaja shopping centre and multi-level car park on Kempegowda Road, which was inaugurated on Monday, will ease traffic congestion and solve the parking problem in the central business district (CBD). The facility was to have been opened nine months ago.

The CBD, comprising Gandhinagar, Avenue Road, Chickpet, B.V.K. Iyengar Road and surrounding areas, records the highest number of business transactions but lacks adequate parking space.

The seven-floor car park (including basement, ground floor and terrace), situated between Kempegowda Road and B.V.K. Iyengar Road, can provide parking space for 400 cars at a time. It has been built through a joint venture between the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP) and Maharaja Buildtech, a private company.

The company has constructed the structure on land owned by the BMP. As per the agreement between the BMP and company, the latter can use the ground floor for commercial purposes. Space on the ground and first floors will be shared between the BMP and the company, and parking space in the basement and on four floors above the first floor will be owned by the BMP(a fee will be collected for parking).
