The residents alleged that both the RTO and police department were turning a blind eye to the menace.

A number of unauthorised vehicles ply daily on Hosur Road between Kalasipalyam and Attibele, between Hosur and Bangalore and between Kolar and Attibele. It is because of them that there is a perennial traffic jam at the Lalbagh West Gate and near the Central Silk Board. These are the complaints of residents of the above areas as well as of those commuting along these routes.

Putting forth these grievances at a press meet in Bangalore on Monday, members of the Bangalore Nagarika Vedike, a social service organisation acting on public complaints, said that only a few buses have the permit to ply on these routes. “However, there are at least 40 buses plying without a permit, thanks to the co-operation from the regional transport office and the police department,” they alleged.

These unauthorised vehicles don’t pay taxes to the State and therefore the government incurs losses worth lakhs of rupees, one of the members, Mr K S Nagaraj said.

“Besides, these vehicles ply at a high speed, causing a inconvenience to other vehicles on the road, and also traverse distances quickly. As a result, buses which have permission to do five trips a day, undertake more than 10 trips,” he alleged.

Following a proposal by Dr M P Nadagowda, MP, at the Assembly session, steps were initiated but for a day, he said and added that the menace is such that it is difficult for the public to commute this stretch. Meanwhile, a petition has been submitted to City Police Commissioner Ajai Kumar Singh, he added.
