Bangalore: Wiping out rowdyism, ensuring security of the common man and implementing strict traffic rules are high on the priority list of the new city police commissioner Ajai Kumar Singh, who took office on Wednesday.

Speaking to reporters after taking charge from outgoing commissioner S Mariswamy, Singh said he would not tolerate rowdy elements in the city and take stringent measures to tackle them. "The concerned jurisdictional police will be held responsible for increasing anti-social activities in their areas. It is a must they should take immediate action to curb such activities," he said.

Commenting on the increasing crime in the city, he said the security of the citizens, especially women and children, will be among his top priorities. He would work for improving the relation between the police and the public. "The law-abiding citizens should feel safe in the city, therefore, we will conduct a quick analysis of the situation and take essential measures to ensure their security," he said.

To ensure traffic safety, he said motorists in the city will be educated about traffic rules and those who break the rules will be dealt with strictly. Outgoing Commissioner S Mariswamy was all praise for his successor and assured safety and security of the public during Singh's tenure. "The city will definitely see an all-round development under Singh's watchful eyes," said Mariswamy, who has been promoted as the Director General of Police (home guards and fire services).
