Intel plans new centre in Bangalore

The Economic Times

In a bid to expand its presence in emerging markets, chip-maker Intel Corporation plans to develop a centre in Bangalore that will define potential for new computing platforms and technologies, specially for India and South Asia.

The platform definition centre is one of three announced by Intel Worldwide since March and reflects the US-based giant’s focused approach to computing and communications.

Stating this during a workshop here last evening, Intel’s Corporate Vice President Anand Chandrasekhar said the company is extending this platform approach across a number of areas, including the digital home, mobility, the enterprise and other segments and across worldwide market.

“Part of the platform development process includes research into technology usage patterns of people around the world by a team of Intel ethnographers. We are making a concerted effort around the world to establish localised technology centres to meet the specific needs of local citizens.”

He added Platform Definition Centre would define technologies according to local needs in terms of features, pricing, usage and delivery, improving access and affordability of PCs among the broader population.
