Helmet rule put off indefinitely

Two-wheeler riders who were protesting against the helmet rule may heave a sigh of relief reports DHNS from Bangalore. Frantic shopping for helmets may be stopped, at least for the time being. For the implementation of the rule will not be on June 15, according to Principal Secretary Brahm Dutt.

Speaking to Deccan Herald, he said June 15 was only the deadline to receive objections from the public against the helmet rule. “The objections are yet to be scrutinised and it will take some more time for the rule to be implemented”, he maintained. He said he was not aware as to when exactly the rule will be enforced. “The government will decide it only after all the objections are gauged”, he said.

Addressing mediapersons on Monday, City Police Commissioner Ajai Kumar Singh had hinted that enforcement of the helmet rule “may” be postponed. However, he too was uncertain with regard to the exact date and legalities of the rule.
