Chilly winds make Bangalore go brrrrr...
New Indian Express

BANGALORE: TWO unusual things happened on Friday. One, the road traffic was smooth. Second, winds that have brought a chill to coastal Karnataka hit Bangalore.

Curious people telephoned newspapers, metrology departments and other agencies to know about the unexpected wind.

When this website’s newspaper spoke to Dr Raje Gowda, Professor of Agrometrology, Gandhi Krishi Vignana Kendra, he said that this was a common phenomenon before the onset of monsoon.

‘‘The monsoon was supposed to enter Karnataka by June 2 and Bangalore on June 5. But it was delayed by a week, as the south-west monsoon was held up at the Kerala coast till Thursday. And with the high pressure in Madhya Pradesh and Northern Maharashtra, the clouds were stopped from entering the peninsular India,’’ Rajegowda said.

He said that Friday morning satellite picture showed that partial clouds had entered in Bangalore, coastal Karnataka, Kerala and Goa.

This is an indication that the high pressure, which was stationed at Madhya Pradesh and Northern Maharashtra, is weakened. By weakening of this high pressure monsoon winds are pushing toward coastal, Karnataka and other parts.

‘‘The winds may cause rain from Saturday. Drizzling may follow in the morning hours. Since more clouds have entered after this phenomenon, we can expect more rain’’, he added.
