Doddaballapur: The Karnataka government is planning to acquire another 300 acres to add to the Doddaballapur apparel park.
The Karnataka industries minister P.G.R. Sindhia said here on Friday that there was “so much pressure” for land in the park that the government has asked the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB) to make the additional acquisition.
Initially, 187 acres were acquired for the park. Sindhia said some 40 units had already picked up spaces within it. Bombay Rayon Fashions on Friday announced a Rs 160-crore integrated textiles and garment project on 20 acres of land in the park. Raymond has set up two major units in the park — one for suits and trousers and another for denimwear. Others biggies in the area include Gokaldas and Himatsingka Seide.
Sindhia, who was here at a function organised to lay the foundation stone for the Bombay Rayon facility, said the two biggest concerns of the park — a water pipeline and effluent treatment plant — would both be addressed within this year. “We are investing Rs 50 crore for this,” he said.
He also said the central government was keen to have more apparel parks in the state, including in Mysore, Bellary and Hubli, and possibly even Gulbarga and Bidar.
