Houses Of IT Engineer, UB Manager Broken Into

Bangalore: Yet another armed dacoity in the city’s IT corridor. A software engineer’s house in the ‘guarded’ Royal Residency Layout, Hongasandra, off Hosur Road, was looted in the early hours of Thursday by a sixmember dacoit gang.

The gang first cut open window grills and sneaked in an eight-yearold boy to open the doors to let in other members of the gang. DSL staffer Balakrishna Shenoy and his wife were fast asleep when the dacoits were gaining entry into their newly built house.

The dacoits assaulted the Shenoys for not handing over almirah keys. They bound and gagged the couple and put them in a room, before escaping with valuables worth around Rs 1 lakh. Balakrishna Shenoy has been injured in the head and legs, the police said.

The Shenoys lodged a complaint with the Hebbugodi police, who rushed to the spot with sniffer dogs and fingerprint experts. “It looks like the dacoits did not expect the couple to wake up and resist them when they were robbing the house,” a senior police officer said.

In a similar incident, a gang looted valuables worth over Rs 4 lakh from a UB manager’s house in LRDE Layout in the HAL police limits on Wednesday night.

Chandrashekar and his wife were fast asleep when the robbery took place, the police said. The police suspect the same gang behind the two dacoities. Armed robberies have been on the rise in and around the city. A majority of them have been committed by first-time offenders, who don’t have any police records. Experts blame lack of police ground-level intelligence for the rise in crimes.

Another reason being cited is the release of over 300 habitual offenders from the jail recently. Also, the residents complain that the visibility of policemen has come down in the outskirts making dacoits bold.
