BANGALORE: The Government on Wednesday hinted it would take stringent steps to control the live band mafia. Replying to the debate on the 2005-06 budget passed by both Houses of Legislature, Deputy Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said the Excise Department would cancel the licences of bars and restaurants running live band shows from the excise year beginning July 1.

‘‘Even if it means a loss of revenue, the Government will not allow such activities to continue. Bar owners can approach the court. We have asked excise officials to collect evidence,’’ Siddaramaiah said.
