Minor changes in Koramangala one-way system

Minor changes in Koramangala one-way system

BANGALORE: The one-way systems on Hosur Road and Sarjapur Road have undergone a few changes since their implementation last Saturday.

Previously, motorists travelling on Hosur Road, wanting to reach water tank junction, were barred from taking a right turn at the Ayyappa Temple. Now, with the right turn permitted, vehicles can either proceed straight towards Indiranagar after reaching water tank junction or turn right at the intersection to go towards Sarjapur.

DCP Traffic (East) M.A. Saleem told this website’s newspaper: ‘‘The altered system is working well and commuters are now happy with the changes.’’

However, the police have not had enough with the one-ways in Koramangala. Soon, a one-way system will be implemented on the Raheja Arcade road in Koramangala. ‘‘There is heavy traffic in that area. We have some plans for implementing a one-way system there. It will be done soon,’’ Saleem said.

However, for those coming from Bangalore Dairy Circle or Adugodi and going towards Madiwala, the system remains unchanged. With entry towards Madiwala on Hosur Road barred, commuters will continue to take a left at the petrol bunk after checkpost junction, go via St. John’s Hospital Road and join Sarjapur Road. To join the Hosur Road, motorists have to take a right turn at Krupanidhi College on to the Madiwala Market Road and then join the Hosur Road.

The problem with the one-ways starts at night, after 9 p.m., motorists, especially taxis, call centre vehicles and autorickshaws, violate the one-way rule with impunity. Motorists also drive down the wrong way on Hosur Road at the check post to take a right turn towards Marutinagar. With no traffic policemen at Hosur Road-Sarjapur Road junction after 9 p.m., one-way violations make the stretch dangerous.
