Normalcy returned to the violence-hit Sarjapur Road and vehicular movement on the busy road leading to HSR Layout and Outer Ring Road was restored at 7 am on Saturday, DHNS reports from Bangalore.
According to police sources, the situation was brought under control around 12.30 am.

From then onwards, it was a tough job for the BMP pourakarmikas to clear the Sarjapur Road. They cleared the debris, including glass shards, metal pieces and burnt tyres from the road in a massive operation from 1 am to 7 am paving the way for vehicular movement. BMTC Managing Director Upendra Tripathi said that five BMTC buses were damaged, of which four were fully charred, causing a loss of Rs 40 lakh. The damaged buses include one eco-friendly Parisara Vahini and another Janapriya Vahini.

City Police Commissioner S Mariswamy said that 20 police personnel suffered injuries in the violence. Four persons have been arrested in connection with the violence, he said. Mr Mariswamy said that no incidence of violence was reported since midnight last night.

Friday night’s violence by the residents of the KSRP police quarters in Koramangala in protest against the killing of policemen by Naxalites had led to widespread arson in the area with more than 20 buses, five shops, a cycle shop and a Hoysala patrol jeep being set on fire. Friday’s violence forced the Krupanidhi College on Sarjapur Road to declare a holiday on Saturday.
