NGO denies interference in BMP’s administration

Janaagraha on Monday stated that it is not “interfering” in Bangalore Mahanagara Palike’s (BMP) administration as alleged by some corporators in BMP council meeting on Saturday.

Janaagraha in a release said that it only aims at encouraging citizen’s participation in civic activities and to improve the quality of living. “We are not proposing taking a contract to collect tax by alleged by some corporators,” it stated.

It may be noted that corporators irrespective of party affiliations, criticised Janaagraha for “unnecessarily” interfering in the administration.

They also took exception to BMP’s move to enter into an agreement with the NGO to undertake a survey in two wards to identify properties which have so far escaped the tax net.

Janaagraha further stated that it has not refused to join hands with BMP, but, in turn, it is BMP which has not replied to its letter, asking for further explanations on the latter’s conditions. The NGO had asked for certain clarifications on conditions laid by BMP to work with it in the survey.
