Waking up to large-scale encroachments of government land in and around Bangalore, the State Cabinet on Thursday initiated steps towards their recovery. It decided to equip the Bangalore Metropolitan Task Force (BMTF) with additional personnel and set up a steering committee headed by principal secretary for Revenue, reports DHNS from Bangalore.

Briefing press persons, Information Minister B Shivaram said that the steering committee will be supported by co-ordination committees headed by the DCs at the district level. The time-frame and plan of action over the recovery exercise will be decided during the next cabinet meeting, he said. There are 24,142 cases of illegal constructions on government land; their area and value being 1,774.35 acres and Rs 2,784 crore respectively, he said.
