Deputy Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Sunday announced that excess land allotted to the Bangalore-Mysore Infrastructure Corridor project would be returned to farmers.
“If the excess land that will be acquired by the government on the suggestion of a committee set up by the government, originally belonged to farmers, it will be returned to them,” he said.
Speaking to reporters after launching new KSRTC buses here, he said the State government had set up a committee under Mr K C Reddy to look into the BMIC project. “The committee had stated that excess land had been allotted to the project. Hence, it has recommended the government to acquire excess land. The State Cabinet had okayed the recommendation,” he replied.
“The excess land will be examined. The government will retain the land belonging to it. And the land belonging to farmers will be denotified and returned to them,” he clarified. “The decision on the corridor project is collective as the government has both JD(S) and Congress ministers. This is not a unilateral decision,” he said, replying to a question.
