A feast for foodies at Habba on day five
A feast for foodies at Habba on day five
What would probably take the cake and the whole bakery would be the asli Kannadiga ‘Nammura Hotel’ and ‘Oor Habbadoota’ stalls!

So how would you like ‘Jolada Rotti oota’ with ‘kemp khara’ to add spice to your habba? Sounds yummy? Bangalore Habba’s food court at the Palace Grounds will give you everything from ragi mudde and soppina saru to exotic Vietnamese fish in lime and Thai crispy chicken.
All in the dreamily-lit backdrop of the Bangalore Palace, where music and dance will soothe the day. Watch Padma Subramaniam perform Bharatnatyam and Nishak Khan on the sitar late into Friday’s sunset as you feast your tastebuds at the plush food court. Entry is from Mount Carmel College side.
The habba’s food complex was set up on Thursday and will be open for connoisseurs for all those with a good taste for art and food. While Panda House has set up a stall for unusual Thai and Vietnamese food, Biryani Merchant and Angeethi (which calls itself the ‘asli dhaba’) will have you swooning over rumali rotis and Mumbaiyya chats.
The former, for instance, will dish up everything Kannadiga from Mangalore’s pathrode and kotte kadabu to Davangere’s benne dose. Akki rotti, mensinkai bajji for a snack or a proper oota for dinner - which will have jolada rotti, madikekal usili, two chutneys, and badnekai engai (stuffed brinjal).
“All our cooks hail from the regions whose delicacies we are serving - for instance, we have a Mangalore cook for our coastal dishes and a Dharwad one for our north Karnataka fare. Our cooks are even wearing their traditional gear - for instance, a panche and a Gandhi topi,” said chief executive officer of Nammura Hotel Krishna Hegde. He said the aim was to promote herbal and local goodies - juices made of lemon grass, amla and brahmi, with pamphlets on how curative each herb is.
Two rare coastal dishes - sukkina unde (a coconut-based deep-fried sweet) and halbai (sweet made of rice and sugarcane) - are also on the platter for the weekend’s revelry, Mr Hegde assures.
A stall selling various powders, pastes and ready-mixes will help stock up your kitchens.
A ‘watering hole’ - stall set up by Kingfisher - could probably top off the entire menu with the right spirit!
