BANGALORE: Coffee World, an international coffee chain, announced the launch of its first coffee lounge in Bangalore recently. The first of its kind in India, Coffee World has been set up at a cost of Rs 40 lakh. The 2,500 sq ft, company owned, 50-seat outlet is housed within an atrium of a busy mall on Brigade Road.

Almost simultaneously, another 50-seater franchisee outlet of Coffee World covering 2,000 sq ft has been inaugurated at a second location in Koramangala, Bangalore.

‘‘Coffee World is modelled on the lines of an international coffee lounge with a living room, luxurious feel which is its key differentiator and sets it in a class apart from other coffee outlets in India,’’ said Anoop Sequeira, CEO of Coffee World. ‘‘The snacks, savouries and desserts offered are authentic continental fare with absolutely no Indian flavour to it,’’ added Sequeira.

Coffee World also has a Wi-Fi zone, which allows executives to log onto or conduct meetings over a cup of coffee. GFA is gearing up to launch 20 coffee lounges in India by December 2005.

Commenting on the launch of Coffee World, Harish Bijoor, marketing consultant and a coffee expert said: ‘‘There is definitely room for another coffee bar in Bangalore and the country can take many more such outlets. This, in spite of the fact that the per capita consumption of coffee in the country is a mere 52 gm as against 14,000 gm per person per year in the US.’’

On a lighter vein he said market research in the US indicates that the average American is more loyal to his coffee than his spouse. ‘‘It’s easy I guess because coffee is more consistent than a spouse can ever be,’’ quipped Bijoor.
