National College flyover delay aggravates traffic troubles

National College flyover delay aggravates traffic troubles

BANGALORE: Recently, Chief Minister Dharam Singh promised that the flyover being constructed near the National College will be completed by March 2005. Bangalore City Corporation (BCC) engineers went a step ahead to claim completion by December 2004. But going by the pace of work, the delay may defy both the statements.

Despite stiff opposition from local residents, the flyover work continues. About one-km stretch of the Vani Vilas Road is now blocked between Vasavi Temple Road and the DVG Road. The work towards DVG Road is still at the foundation stage. The steel form work put across Krishna Rajendra Road is scary as traffic has to pass between the cage-like scaffolds and a vehicular collision can cause a major disaster. Motorists hope that BCC officials do something to avoid such an eventuality.

With half the construction work pending, the contractor, NPCC, will have to work a miracle to meet the deadline for this Rs. 11-crore project. With a provision for escalation, only the tax payer and the hapless motorist stand to lose in case of delay.
