No trucks on Hosur, Bannerghatta Roads

No trucks on Hosur, Bannerghatta Roads
Times of India

Bangalore: Looks like the government has finally given in to the sustained campaign by IT gurus and the media over the sad state of affairs on the arterial roads of Bangalore.

The good news: from Saturday, the police will restrict movement of trucks and heavy goods vehicles on stretches of Hosur Road, Sarjapur Road and Bannerghatta Road between 8 am and 10 am, 5 pm and 8 pm.

This move comes after the chief minister’s direction to regulate entry of trucks through the Silk Board junction by fixing timings for their movement. A few days ago, IT professionals and locals had threatened to stage a dharna on Hosur Road to protest the chaotic traffic during peak hours. However, the dharna was called off after the CM promised necessary steps to check the traffic situation.

But on Bannerghatta Road, locals and many from IIM-B took to the streets to protest the pathetic state of roads and pavements.

Trucks won’t be allowed from 8 am to 10 am and 5 pm to 8 pm on the following stretches:

• Bannerghatta Road: J.D. Mara junction to Meenakshi Temple.
• Hosur Road: Silk Board junction to Chandapur.
• Sarjapur Road: Iblur to JD Mara junction.
