Cellphones set to top landlines in Bangalore

Bangalore has as many cellular phones as the land telephones

BANGALORE: The number of cellular phones including those provided by the private service providers has equalled that of the landline telephones in Bangalore city, according to Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) principal general manager P Ganesh.

Speaking to newsmen here, he said the total number of land telephones working in the city had crossed 9.60 lakh.

The number of cellular phones in the city was bound to increase in the coming days as most of the people preferred to have multiple cell phones for communication and one landline exclusively for internet access. The city had an optical fibre cable network of over 2825 route km and the total number of telephone exchanges crossed 200.
