Commuters had to put up with a traffic jam for more than an hour on the newly opened Dairy Circle flyover on Monday afternoon.

Police said the chaos prevailed for sometime and traffic movement on Hosur Road came to a standstill when restless motorists tried to rush through the flyover resulting in a blockade on the flyover. There is no median separating the inflow of traffic from other roads to the flyover leading to the problem, police added. Police said there has been unregulated traffic moving from Bannerghatta Road, Hosur Road and Audgodi Road towards the flyover.

When contacted Deputy Commissioner of Police Traffic (East) MA Saleem said, the police was studying the traffic flow on the Dairy Circle flyover and was putting up restrictions to prevent further traffic jams. There has been crisscrossing of traffic for which a proper median needed to be erected, he said.

Mr Saleem said traffic on this road is moving at a snail’s pace due to construction activity and added that vehicles commuting towards Audgodi and Hosur Road will be diverted to other roads to ease the inflow of traffic to Dairy Circle flyover.

The traffic police is holding a meeting shortly with the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation to discuss shifting of bus routes to other roads to ease congestion, Mr Saleem said. He said BMTC was plying 27 routes on the Dairy Circle flyover route. The police would also request shifting of bus stands near Dairy Circle flyover, he added.
