Infrastructure assessment survey to be undertaken

Study to look into needs of Bangalore, surroundings

Global tenders will be called for the survey which will be co-ordinated by KUIFDC.

A comprehensive study for Bangalore and surrounding districts will soon be commissioned by the Urban Development department to study the infrastructure needs of these areas over the next few years. This will cover traffic management, transport (rail and road), civic amenities like water supply and sewerage and waste disposal and other such facilities.

The Karnataka Urban Infrastructure Development and Finance Corporation will invite global tenders to take up the survey shortly, said BMP Commissioner K Jothiramalingam on Tuesday.

Responding to queries on bad traffic management by corporators at the BMP monthly Council meeting, Mr Jothiramalingam said that the study, expected to take about 18 months, will be funded by World Bank. “The study will cover about 8,000 sq kms in all -- Bangalore Urban and Rural districts, Tumkur, Kolar and other districts. In the first phase, we want the study to give a report on 1,400 sq kms of these areas (comprising Bangalore Urban and Rural districts),” Mr Jothiramalingam informed the Council.
