BU bio park to come up in a big way

BANGALORE: The Bangalore University Syndicate on Tuesday decided to fund the maintenance and further development of the bio-diversity park for academic use.

The academic facilities in the park include growing such species of plants which are essential for study in Botany and Environmental Science courses. The Syndicate had earlier decided to allow development of the park at the Jnanabharathi premises without any financial commitment on its part. It, however, has relaxed its stand now after the widespread appreciation for the park and has now decided to develop it in a big way.

Environmentalist A.N. Yellappa Reddy, who is part of the advisory panel on the park, made a presentation before the Syndicate. The park, the work on which began during former V-C K. Siddappa’s period, has been expanded by Dr. M.S. Thimmppa to include Charaka-Shushruta vana, Pancha-Valkala Vruksha Dhama (five bark bearing trees), bonsai garden and aroma park.

The bio-diversity park has about three lakh saplings including many rare and endangered species.
