Bangalore: With Vikas Soudha getting final touches, the last section of the Government Press building is set for demolition to make way for a sprawling garden.
An extended portion of the Government Press, called the Printing and Stationery Depot, is located at the north side entrance of the M.S. Buildings.
It will be demolished in the coming days as the press operations have already been shifted to a new location to Peenya. “This particular building was empty. Only the sales outlet was open. It will be moved to M.S. Buildings premises. The previous government had already issued an order authorising its demolition,’’ PWD officials contended.
No other building in the surroundings has been considered for demolition, they maintained. “Since this particular building served no purpose, it is being demolished,’’ they added.
Officials said the government’s intention is to model important buildings on the Vidhana Soudha premises on the lines of the monumental structure.
The vacant space between Vidhana Soudha, Vikas Soudha and KPSC will be developed into a mega garden by the BDA.
