BANGALORE: The Malleswarm grade separator and Mathikere-Gokula Railway Over Bridge (ROB) will be thrown open to the public from November, Malleswaram MLA M.R. Seetharam said here on Wednesday.

Speaking after inspecting work on these facilities, the MLA said that 30 per cent of the work had been completed so far.

Work on the Rs. 16-crore Malleswaram grade separator started in December last and that on the Rs. 14-crore Mathikere-Gokula ROB started in December 2005, he said.

Deadline

While the Malleswaram project is in tune with the deadline, the Mathikere ROB project had been behind schedule by two years.

This was because of problems in shifting of underground utility lines, the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Chief Engineer (Projects) A.K. Gopalswamy said to the MLA during the inspection.

The MLA directed the officials and the contractors to sort out all problems and ensure that the projects were ready by November. "In Malleswaram, work on the Sampige Road loop should be completed by August," Mr. Seetharam told the officials.

Following the delay in completion of the 700-metre Mathikere-Gokula ROB, being executed by BBMP in coordination with the Railways on a 50-50 cost sharing basis, residents of the area have been put to great hardship. As the main road had been closed for the work, people have to walk some distance to reach home from the main road.

Mr. Seetharam, who said that he was aware of these problems, directed the officials to ensure that the project was ready before November.
